Biggest sensor phone launched: Know the details about Leica Leitz phone 1

Leica has launched its first camera phone, the Leitz Phone 1. Announced at a press event in Tokyo, IT was revealed by Engadget Japan. This is a 5G phone with a 20MP main camera (with an optional magnetic lens cap) powered by a 1-inch sensor, along with a 12.6 MP selfie camera in the back.

While the Leica Leitz Phone 1 is not a collaboration with any other company, it appears to be a largely rebranded version of the Sharp Aquos R6, a phone "co-developed" with Leica that featured the same 20 MP sensor 1 Inch behind a 7-element Summicron 19 mm f / 1.9 ASPH lens.

One of these camera manufacturers is the German brand Leica. Leica has been working closely with Huawei, offering some excellent cameras, which have taken the Chinese company's products to great heights in terms of cameras and resulted in significant growth as more camera-focused audiences pay attention to the company's products.

Despite this success, however, camera maker Leica had not released a phone under its brand but on Thursday. The announcement of the Leica mobile phone 1 marks the launch of the first smartphone that includes the Leica camera system.

What Do We Know About Leica’s First Smartphone?

In terms of specifications, the Leitz Phone 1 has the following features:

  • 6.6-inch UXGA + Curved OLED screen (2730 × 1260 pixels) 
  • 240 Hz refresh rate 
  • punch cutout for the single selfie camera
  • 9.5 mm in size 
  • weighs 212 grams
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC processor
  • 12 GB of RAM 
  • 256 GB of storage expandable up to 1 TB via a microSD card. 
  • Android 11 
  • Supports 5G

The selling point is a 1-inch 20-megapixel CMOS camera sensor with a Leica Summicron lens of the elements. 

The company advises that users can use the special 'Leiz Looks' mode to create rich black and white tones following Leica's legendary monochrome standards. 

Users can also use a lens cap (sold separately) to cover the rear camera, such as a DSLR camera. In front is a 12.6-megapixel sensor for selfies and video calls. This is a phone designed for 4K photos and videos.

The lock Leitz Phone 1 has a 5,000 mAh battery that is charged via the USB Type-C port. 

Most recently, the phone cost JPY 187,920, which is around 1.25,800, and is available in silver color only. There is a “3-d ultrasound” fingerprint sensor inside the display that reads up to 2 fingerprints at a time for extra security.

Leica Leitz phone 1 price

The Leitz Phone 1 is currently exclusively available from Softbank in Japan and the Leica Leitz Phone 1 price is 187,920 yen or around 1,700 US dollars.

Leica phone 1 price in India will be 1,26,000. INR (approx.). Pre-orders will start on June 18th and the phone will be available in late July. There is presently no information on global availability, so we will have to wait for further announcements.
