When will 5G launch in India?

What is 5G?

5g is a new card in the game of cellular networks.5G or a fifth-generation technology standard for cellular networks came to light in 2019. It’s a successor of the 4g network promising a much faster network and believed to have the potential to support devices at ultrafast speed and transform lives. It can be a game-changer in the area of virtual reality (VR), and artificial intelligence (AI). 5g will provide much faster download speeds, low latency, and more capacity and connectivity compared to 4G.

How 5G works?

5G networks use a system of cell sites that splits their territory into sectors that encodes the data and transmit it through radio waves. Each cell site must be connected to a network backbone, whether through a wireless or a wired backhaul connection. transmitting a signal from a remote site or network to another site, usually a central one.5g will be a qualitative shift from 4G.

5G in India

5G networks were once expected to be launched in India by late 2020 or early 2021, but now it doesn’t seem possible before mid-2021. 5g phones are already available in the Indian market but setting up a 5g network won’t be that easy. The two key companies in the race of 5G are Reliance Jio and Airtel.

The main hurdles between 5g in India are

Massive AGR dues of telecom companies staggered from the last 20 years. The total amount due as per the Department of Telecom's submission is Rs 119,292 crore. Telecom companies have paid Rs 25,896 crore but Rs 93,520 crore still remains to be paid.

Introducing the 5G is very expensive. 5g needs setting up a massive infrastructure to enable large-scale network connectivity.

India’s 5g auctions are delayed due to the financial issues of the sector. The financial health of the telecom is not good now which is leading to this delay of the 5g airwaves auction.

Jio 5G

Reliance Jio was the first telecom company to approach the Indian government to conduct 5G mobile network trials. A four-year-old startup created by one of the most successful businessmen of India is now ruling the telecom sector of India. During this year AGM the founder of Jio made some massive promises which attracted the attention of the whole world. During the meeting Ambani stated that his company Jio had “created a complete 5G solution from scratch” and it would be based “100 percent on homegrown technologies and solutions”.

These claims came when the whole world is trying to figure out how to roll out 5G. Further, Ambani added that the 5G kit will be ready for trials as soon as the 5G spectrum becomes available and ready for field deployments in 2021.

But these appealing promises seem to have a lot of loopholes in them. many international companies are working for years on rolling out 5g  And even if they succeeded in it initially it’ll be available only for the premier customers as the prices would be too high for everyone to afford it. Jio being a novice in this field with only four years of experience and no major patents claiming such big accomplishments seems to be a hyperbole. Although new conceptions need to break old norms and limits.

5G in other countries

South Korea was the first to adopt the 5G network in the world followed by South Korea, UK, Germany. Many countries like Japan, Australia, and New Zealand — have barred Huawei 5G deals and many world powers remain undecided.

And for all those tech lovers who’re very enthusiastic about buying 5G phones, it won’t be a good idea unless you have your pockets filled with money because the new 5G plans and smartphones won’t be very budget-friendly.
